A. Fomkin is a Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, head of the laboratory of Sorption processes of IPCE RAS, and a well-known specialist in the field of research of adsorption phenomena in various nanoporous materials, including microporous carbon adsorbents, zeolites, metal-organic frameworks. He consistently develops approaches based on the theory by academician Dubinin.

Investigation of the fundamental laws of the adsorption of gases, vapors and liquids in wide ranges of pressures and temperatures, including at high pressures on adsorbents with different porous structures and surface chemistry 

A. Fomkin successfully managed the scientific projects focused on the development and implementation of adsorption-based technologies of storage and transportation of energetic gases. A.A. Fomkin is the chairman of the section of the Scientific Council of RAS on adsorption and inspirer of annual conferences and symposia on topical issues of adsorption and adsorbents. Author of more than 210 published works, including 2 monographs, and 11 patents.
